e-asthma, or eosinophilic asthma, is a type of severe asthma5-7
In people with e-asthma, there are too many eosinophils in the blood or lungs.5-7
Eosinophils are immune cells.8 When eosinophils are functioning normally, they help fight infections.8 When there are too many, they can cause inflammation in the lungs and make asthma symptoms worse.7,9-11.
People with severe asthma need high-dose inhaled preventer medications to control their asthma. Even with this medication, they may still experience frequent asthma symptoms or flare-ups. Others may need oral steroids to control their asthma.12,13
